Amazon has launched the Amazon Sustainability Exchange, a free website offering guidance and information that helped the company decarbonize its operations. This platform aims to assist other businesses in their journey toward net-zero carbon emissions.
In 2019, Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge, committing to reach net-zero carbon by 2040. Since then, the company has developed advanced systems and solutions, such as rolling out over 24,000 electric delivery vehicles and achieving LEED Platinum Certification for its new headquarters, HQ2. In 2023, Amazon matched all its electricity usage with 100% renewable energy, seven years ahead of its goal.
The Amazon Sustainability Exchange focuses on seven key areas: Buildings, Carbon Neutralization, Carbon-Free Energy, Human Rights, Transportation, Waste and Circularity, and Water Stewardship. It includes resources like the Carbon Measurement and Reporting Playbook, a Renewable Energy Playbook, and guides on building sustainable infrastructure and water stewardship programs.
Amazon encourages other companies, regardless of size, to use these resources to decarbonize their operations. The platform will continue to expand with new content and tools to meet the needs of suppliers.
Additionally, Amazon, which has the world's biggest supply chain, will prioritize working with suppliers committed to decarbonization. Suppliers contributing more than 50% of emissions to Amazon's Scope 3 footprint are expected to provide decarbonization plans and demonstrate progress over time.
Amazon invites suppliers to join The Climate Pledge community, which currently has over 500 signatories in 45 countries. This community offers access to events, projects, and experts to support decarbonization efforts.
Amazon remains committed to reaching net-zero carbon by 2040 and aims to drive global change through collective action with its suppliers.
