Less than two years after beginning construction, Maersk has officially launched its first low greenhouse gas emission warehouse in Denmark, situated in Taulov Dry Port, Fredericia. The inauguration took place on June 24, 2024, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by customers, local authorities, and partners.
Maersk’s Nordics Area Managing Director, Birna Ödefors, and John E. Nyborg, Chairman of the Technical Council in Fredericia, cut the ribbon together, as the company moves toward achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2040. This state-of-the-art facility sets new international standards for low-emission warehouses and logistics, enhancing the handling of cargo arriving in the Nordics by road, sea, and air.
“We are bringing to life a true logistics hub located right in the centre of the Danish Triangle Region,” said Ödefors. “This will be a new centre of gravity, with easy access to the main infrastructure elements – ports, rail, and road, as well as our air hub in Billund – making it a perfect example of integrated logistics solutions that are at the heart of Maersk’s strategy. More importantly, this facility directly responds to the needs of our customers, many of whom operate their own distribution centres and production facilities in the area.”
The project is a joint venture between Maersk and Taulov Dry Port, the owner of the land. Constructed to BREEAM Excellent standards, the warehouse operates with zero direct emissions. The facility is equipped with electrified indoor and outdoor equipment, solar panels covering the entire roof, and battery-driven trucks for shunting operations. Excess renewable energy produced is fed back into the grid, and hydrogen stations are planned within 150 meters of the site.
“It is a great honour to hold the inauguration of Maersk's new warehouse in Taulov Dry Port,” stated Rune D. Rasmussen, CEO of ADP A/S, the operator of the Port of Fredericia and Taulov Dry Port. “Maersk has recognized the value in locating their storage facility here, at Denmark's multimodal transportation hub. Our collaboration has now entered a new phase, and we look forward to its continuation.”
