Uber Freight and Aurora Innovation are launching Premier Autonomy, a program providing early access to over one billion of Aurora’s driverless miles to Uber Freight carriers through 2030. This initiative aims to deploy autonomous trucks on the Uber Freight network, improving business efficiency and utilization for carriers of all sizes. Uber Freight will be one of Aurora's first customers on its Dallas-to-Houston route, with driverless hauls expected to start at the end of 2024.
“Uber Freight and Aurora see a tremendous opportunity to democratize autonomous trucks for carriers of all sizes, enabling them to drive more revenue, scale their fleets, and strengthen their bottom lines,” Uber Freight CEO Lior Ron. “Autonomous trucks will make moving goods more efficient, and this industry-first program will help facilitate and accelerate the adoption of autonomous trucks with our carriers.”
Premier Autonomy offers carriers a streamlined path to onboard the Aurora Driver, which includes a subscription for autonomous freight hauling and access to over one billion driverless miles. The integration of Aurora’s autonomous technology into the Uber Freight platform aims to maximize the use of autonomous trucks.
“With Uber Freight, we can provide hundreds of carriers Premier Autonomy to autonomous truck capacity that they wouldn’t otherwise have,” said Aurora President Ossa Fisher. “Working with carriers of all sizes is one of the many ways we will transform the industry and see thousands of driverless trucks on the road.”
Aurora’s research indicates that autonomous trucks can complete routes such as Dallas to Los Angeles in a single day, compared to the two to three days required by human-driven trucks. The program is expected to significantly enhance efficiency and sustainability in the freight industry, with autonomous trucks being up to 32% more energy efficient than traditional trucking methods.
Since 2020, Uber Freight and Aurora have been conducting self-driving truck runs between major Texas cities, accumulating critical insights for the effective deployment of driverless technology. The Premier Autonomy program is designed to help carriers seamlessly transition to driverless operations, ensuring access to dedicated capacity and a familiar experience for customers.
