NextGen Supply Chain Conference adds Johnson & Johnson’s Luis Roman as keynote speaker

Roman leads a diverse set of teams at Johnson & Johnson, but the goal is the same: promote continuous operational and supply chain improvements.


Working across various functions in the Johnson & Johnson supply chain, Luis Roman has gleaned insights from many leaders and departments. Those insights are now being put to good use in his current role as head of global site & supply chain services.

Roman, who will deliver a keynote address at the upcoming NextGen Supply Chain Conference, leads several global and enterprise functions at Johnson & Johnson, including Engineering & Property Services, Supply Chain Excellence, Global Transportation, Enterprise Contract Management, Digital & Data Science, Trade Controls, and Strategic Programs. Under his leadership, these teams strive to continuously improve operational and supply chain capabilities, explore partnerships across a diverse network, and drive customer-focused growth and innovation for the future.

This year’s NextGen Supply Chain Conference, presented by Supply Chain Management Review and Peerless Media, will be held on Oct. 21-23 at the Chicago Athletic Association hotel in downtown Chicago. The event starts with an opening reception on the evening of Monday, Oct. 21, at the famous Chicago hotel, with full days of content following Tuesday and Wednesday. Modern Materials Handling, also part of Peerless Media, is a sister media brand to SCMR.

The NextGen Supply Chain Conference’s theme this year is “Digitization is here, what’s next?” More information, including registration information, is available on the NextGen website.

Prior to his current role, Roman was responsible for the management of Janssen Supply Chain’s global Small Molecule Platform, which included oversight of the global internal and external network, management of critical strategic partnerships, reliability, and continuous improvement. Additionally, he has held roles as vice president of Janssen’s Partnership and External Supply, and vice president of Supply Chain within MedTech leading Cardiovascular Care and Specialty Solutions (CSS) and Ethicon with supply chain end-to-end responsibility of finished goods and services for the franchises.

In all prior roles, the organizations delivered a strong track record of improving key operational performance and stabilizing product supply, while delivering enhancements in all phases of the business that have been recognized both internally and externally.

Throughout his tenure at J&J, he has been known for his active participation and sponsorship of Employee Relationship Groups HOLA and Open & Out. He is also a member of the Seton Hall University Transformative Leadership in Disruptive Times Program Advisory Board. In this advisory role, Roman helps shape the Seton Hall Supply Chain graduate curriculum and provides mentorship to graduate students on the changing landscape of pharmaceutical supply chain external manufacturing. Additionally, he is a board member for the Pace Center for Girls which is an innovative prevention and intervention program focused on providing an opportunity for a better future through education, counseling, training, and advocacy.

Other speakers scheduled to appear include Amy T. Augustine, senior director of network supply chain at U.S. Cellular; Peter Bolstorff, executive vice president of corporate development at ASCM; and Craig Moss, director of data and change management at the Digital Supply Chain Institute.
