NMFTA highlights ‘Major Changes’ are coming to freight classification


The National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) has announced that major National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) changes will take effect in the first quarter of 2025.

These changes will impact carriers, shippers, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs), the NMFTA said.

To ensure a smooth transition across the supply chain, NMFTA will host three less-than-truckload (LTL) listening sessions in August. Each session is dedicated to a specific industry sector:

  •  Carriers Only LTL Listening Session: 2:00-3:00 pm ET on Tuesday, August 6; 
  •  3PLs Only LTL Listening Session: 2:00-3:00 pm ET on Wednesday, August 7; and
  •  Shippers Only LTL Listening Session: 2:00-3:00 pm ET on Thursday, August 8.
