Vention and Universal Robots Show Coordinated Motion Technology at FABTECH

Vention's seventh axis integrates with UR cobots for precise TCP motion.

At FABTECH in Chicago this week, Vention Inc. announced its Coordinated Motion technology, which it developed with Universal Robots A/S to synchronize motion control across six robot joints and a single external linear axis. This enables precise tool center point, or TCP, trajectory execution through multiple waypoints at specific times across a robot workspace, said the Montreal-based company.

“It is a great achievement to show at FABTECH the new Coordinated Motion software developed in collaboration with Universal Robots,” said Anik Roy Trudel, vice president of product line management at Vention, in a release.

“This new innovation exemplifies Vention's and Universal Robots' commitment to providing our users with cutting-edge solutions that streamline operations and enhance productivity,” Roy Trudel said. “We are excited to empower our Universal Robots' customers with Coordinated Motion and looking forward to sharing the impact it will have on their automated systems.”

Coordinated Motion integrates seventh axis

By integrating Vention's seventh axis range extender and Universal Robots' collaborative robots, Coordinated Motion allows users to optimize automation cycle times, maintain a constant TCP, and track the TCP to enhance efficiency and throughput, said the company.

Vention added that the technology allows robots to be integrated with a horizontal or vertical axis, as well as a rotary positioner, for multiple applications. “This new offering will further broaden the utility of Coordinated Motion and add a valuable dimension to automation solutions,” it said.

Coordinated Motion will officially be available to Vention and Universal Robots users within the next six months, the companies stated.

About Vention

Vention said its digital Manufacturing Automation Platform (MAP) allows clients to quickly design, automate, order, and deploy automated equipment directly from their Web browsers. The company said its 302 employees serve more than 4,000 customers on five continents and 25 manufacturing sectors.

Universal Robots recently named Vention as a certified solutions partner. Its systems support applications including palletizing, machine tending, and case picking.

The company, which has offices in Boston and Berlin, has received recognition including the Deloitte 2022 Technology Fast 50m, the Report on Business Canada’s top growing company, and a Best Work Place for professional development.
