Talking Supply Chain: Supply chain’s watchdog

Being a watchdog can have many different meanings. But for health care supply chains, it means the difference between life and death.

Emily Gallo, senior vice president of OptiFreight Logistics, joined the Talking Supply Chain podcast to discuss how OptiFreight is using tracking and visibility to help make more informed decisions for its clients, and improve health outcomes as a result.

“OptiFreight is a tech-forward organization,” she said. “It’s a standalone company within Cardinal Health and what we do is focus on all of those packages that come in and out of a health care site,  whether that’s a hospital or a pharmacy or a lab surgery center—even to the patient’s home. We do it with a combination of technology and people and our focus is to bring visibility, drive value and greater control of those packages.”

Gallo said the issue with health care supply chains is not the amount of data, it is understanding how to use it while maintaining patient privacy.

“The complex and fragmented systems turn that data into insights—or don’t—and that’s where we see health care being a more complex industry that gets in the way of everyone having a full line of sight into visibility,” Gallo said.
